Understand Your Cancer Case

The Patient & Physician Portal, opening soon, will help you understand your records and explore treatment information. When you want a Korean hospital review, APIS helps identify relevant hospitals and coordinates the submission and response.

Understand Your Records Through the Patient & Physician Portal

A medical record can contain unfamiliar terms, several dates and findings that appear to conflict. The Patient & Physician Portal brings the available information together so you can see what is documented and what still needs to be asked.

Medical Summary

Read an organized account of the diagnosis, pathology, imaging, treatment history and current condition drawn from your available records.

Plain-Language Explanation

Understand clinical findings, medical terms and TNM staging language. Use suggested questions to prepare a discussion with your treating physician.

Treatment Options

Read general information about treatment approaches relevant to the available cancer facts, including where particle therapy may enter the discussion. It helps you explore questions rather than prescribing a treatment for you.

Sources and Missing Information

See the record sources behind extracted medical facts and information not yet documented. Follow the case status and exchange messages with APIS.

Automated checks compare extracted facts with their source records. APIS staff can review and correct information, and AI-assisted explanations are identified within the Patient & Physician Portal. A record-based summary becomes possible when medical records are available.

Questions for your doctor help you prepare for a discussion with your treating physician. AI-assisted explanations are released after APIS review and are not a physician’s clinical review.

Starting With Your Diagnosis

When the Portal opens, patients may register directly. A physician, patient advocate or family member may register on a patient’s behalf with the patient’s permission. Patient consent is obtained before medical records are processed.

Start with your diagnosis or suspected diagnosis. Your doctor’s recommendation may be written or verbal; a formal referral letter is not required for the initial inquiry. Add the available records listed below when ready.

Requesting Hospital Review

After you choose to proceed, APIS confirms your authorization, recommends relevant Korean hospitals for review and organizes the required submission. We follow up on missing information and communicate the hospital’s response.

The Patient & Physician Portal will provide AI-assisted explanations after APIS review. Hospital specialists evaluate suitability and make treatment decisions.

What the Hospital Reviews

The hospital reviews the cancer type, where it is located, how far it has spread, previous treatment and your current condition. It considers surgery and other treatments, and whether radiation can reach the tumor without excessive dose to nearby organs.

You can explore a review during initial treatment planning, before radiation begins or while authorization or an appeal is pending. Continue appropriate current care while both teams discuss the options.

Required Records for Hospital Review

These groups describe the records ordinarily requested for a substantive hospital review. They are not a checklist you must complete before the first inquiry. APIS confirms what the receiving hospital needs.

Scan Reports and Original Images

A scan report is the radiologist’s written interpretation of CT, MRI or PET imaging. Original scan images are the underlying data, usually supplied as DICOM files. Reports can support an initial inquiry; original images may be requested for detailed review.

1. Diagnosis and Physician Information

  • Diagnosis or suspected diagnosis, present condition and reason for inquiry
  • Referral letter, physician opinion or clinical summary, when available
  • The treating doctor’s current recommendation; an initial recommendation may be verbal

2. Pathology and Molecular Findings

  • Histopathology report and immunohistochemistry (IHC), if available
  • Relevant molecular or genetic findings, if available

3. Imaging

  • Written CT, MRI, PET or other radiology reports
  • Original DICOM images when the hospital requests them

4. Previous Treatment

  • Surgery and operation reports
  • Systemic-treatment drugs and dates
  • Previous radiation dose, treatment fields and dates
  • Planning records and DICOM-RT when required for re-irradiation

5. Laboratory and Other Results

Relevant blood count, liver and kidney function results, tumor markers and other cancer-specific tests, if available. Not every test is needed for every case.

Previous Radiation

Start with a radiation summary showing the area treated, dates, total dose and number of sessions. Detailed review may require the planning CT and DICOM-RT files: RTSTRUCT (structure outlines), RTPLAN (treatment plan) and RTDOSE (dose distribution). Your previous radiation department can provide these.

How previous dose affects another radiation course explains the treatment question.

Hospital Responses and Next Steps

A hospital response may request more information, offer a consultation or recommend a different treatment. Timing depends on the department, record completeness and case complexity; an initial reply is not final treatment acceptance.

If treatment is offered, planning dates and hospital estimates help you decide whether to travel. APIS services cover treatment arrangements and follow-up coordination.

For Patient Advocates and Treating Professionals

When the Portal opens, patients can register directly. Referring physicians, patient advocates and family members may also register on behalf of a patient with the patient’s permission.

Records and Consent

The Patient & Physician Portal obtains patient consent before medical records are processed. With the patient’s permission, a physician, advocate or family member may assist with registration. For consent withdrawal or requests to delete records, contact info@apiskorea.com.

Until the Portal opens, medical records can be sent to APIS by email or WhatsApp. APIS can upload records on your behalf after the necessary patient consent is obtained. Your initial inquiry does not require a complete hospital-review checklist.

Open Your Case

Send your diagnosis or available records to APIS by WhatsApp or email. Portal access will be added when it opens.
