APIS: International Medical Coordination for Proton and Carbon Ion Therapy

What APIS Coordinates

International cancer care often requires more than identifying a hospital.

Patients and families may need to understand which hospital may be relevant, what documents are required, whether preliminary review is possible, and how communication with the hospital should proceed.

APIS supports selected international patients by coordinating non-clinical steps in the review and referral process.

APIS may help coordinate:

  • Initial case intake and basic information review
  • Identification of relevant Korean hospitals based on the available information
  • Confirmation of required documents for hospital review
  • Submission of medical records to the hospital’s appropriate department
  • Communication with hospital coordinators during the preliminary review process
  • Requesting hospital-provided cost estimates when available
  • Appointment coordination when further consultation may be appropriate
  • Practical support related to translation, scheduling, travel planning, or accommodation when needed

Hospital cost estimates are provided by the hospital and may change depending on the consultation, additional tests, treatment planning, admission needs, or changes in the patient’s condition. APIS does not determine or guarantee final treatment costs.

A case may appear relevant to particle therapy, but the hospital must decide whether further consultation or treatment can be considered.

APIS also does not guarantee treatment acceptance, treatment outcome, or faster access to care.

The role of APIS is to reduce communication and coordination burden for international patients and families, helping reduce repeated steps and avoid unnecessary delays while keeping the review clear, organized, and realistic.

* Final treatment decisions are determined solely by the treating hospitals and physicians.
